Eureka High School District services the residents of Eureka and surrounding areas. There are several feeder districts for Eureka High School (Cutten, Garfield, Freshwater, Pine Hill School, South Bay School and Kneeland.) Eureka High School has an enrollment of approximately 1850 and is the largest high school on the California North Coast. Eureka High School offers advanced placement courses in their regular curriculum as well as a host of electives for all students. The city of Eureka also offers two other alternative high schools Humboldt Bay High School and Zoe Barnum High School for students finding that the traditional high school may not meet their individual needs.
Eureka City Schools test scores are above the national average and several of the schools are recipients of distinguished awards. The Eureka School District is proud of their recent full accreditation and ongoing strategic plan for the success of all their students. Eureka schools offer "PowerSchool" which is a new web based information system for students, parents, teachers and school administrators. The school district offers many special services including assessment and evaluation, speech and language specialists, counselors, psychologists and a community learning center.
MiddleThe city has two middle facilities and includes students in the sixth to eighth grades. Winship Middle is located on the outskirts of the town. Zane Middle is located in the town. Access individual sites for all middle and elementary locations here.
ElementaryResidents have a choice of six elementary facilities.
Alice Birney Elementary -- a 2002 California Distinguished School Award winner.
Grant Elementary -- received the Distinguished Award in 2000.
Washington Elementary -- has received multiple California Distinguished Awards
Jefferson Elementary -- received an excellent academic performance award.
Lincoln and Lafayette Elementaries boast reduce class size and excellent academic
programs.

The Winzler Children's Center is a preschool for children ages 3 to 5. The curriculum corresponds to each age group and emphasis is placed on academic and social development.
Outstanding private education is offered at St. Bernard's Catholic School (707) 443-2735 with classes from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. St. Bernard's also offers day care. Mistwood Montessori offers classes for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten age children and Redwood Christian (707) 442-4625 teaches grades pre-kindergarten through 6th grade.
Higher Education
Located in the city is the College of the Redwoods, a two year community college.
